Drive from Delhi via Moradabad → Rampur → Haldwani → Bhimtal → Kosi. Total distance is approximately 360km, 7–8 hours. Leave Delhi by 4am to avoid the Moradabad bottleneck. You can also take an overnight train from Delhi to Kathgodam (Ranikhet Express / Kathgodam Express), then a 90km taxi to Kosi (~2.5 hrs). We'll send you precise GPS coordinates, the best route, and recommended stops after booking. Full road trip guide here →
The NH9 highway to Haldwani is excellent. The hill road from Bhimtal to Almora is well-maintained but has sharp mountain bends — requires full attention and moderate speed. In January–February, ice is possible above 1,500m; carry chains if driving in peak winter. The road from Kosi to Soul Kumaon is a steep, unpaved track — most sedans can manage; let us know your vehicle type and we'll advise.
Yes — shared taxis from Kathgodam to Almora run regularly (approx. ₹150–200/seat). Private cabs from Haldwani or Kathgodam to Kosi cost approximately ₹1,200–1,800 depending on vehicle. We can arrange a reliable local driver for you — just ask on WhatsApp when booking.
Breakfast and dinner cooked fresh by our Kumaoni caretaker are included every day. The stay includes: the private container cabin with king bed, river-view deck, cliffside bonfire pit, rooftop stargazing deck with telescope, Starlink WiFi, trail maps for all nearby walks, and welcome refreshments. Lunch is not included — there are excellent local dhabas 5 minutes away in Kosi market.
We require a minimum of 2 nights. We genuinely recommend 3–4 nights — it takes a day to fully decompress and settle, and the place reveals itself slowly. Many guests who book 2 nights extend on arrival.
Soul Kumaon is designed for 2 guests — a couple or two close friends. The cabin has one king suite. For groups of 3–4, WhatsApp us; we may be able to suggest partner accommodations nearby that would allow a group to stay in the same area.
We have Starlink satellite internet — fast and reliable even at this altitude. Works well for video calls, remote work, and streaming. Mobile signal (Jio / Airtel) is available in Kosi market but can be 1–2 bars on the hillside. BSNL tends to be most consistent in this area if you have it. We recommend Starlink for anything that requires a stable connection.
We welcome well-behaved dogs. Please let us know at booking so we can prepare accordingly — keep them leashed on the deck and forest paths due to local wildlife. Cats unfortunately can't be accommodated. There's no extra charge for pets, just common-sense care around the property.
Layers are essential year-round — even May–June evenings at 7,200 feet are cool. In winter (Dec–Feb), bring a heavy down jacket, thermals, and warm socks. Good walking shoes for forest trails. A personal torch for nighttime (we have some but personal is better). Sunscreen — altitude makes UV significantly stronger. Cash for Kosi market and local dhabas. We provide all linen, towels, toiletries, and tea/coffee throughout your stay.
October–November is peak season: post-monsoon clarity, rich green landscape, crystal-clear mountain views, and empty roads. March–May is equally stunning: rhododendrons in bloom, warm days, long evenings on the deck. December–February is cold (0–8°C days, below freezing nights) but exceptionally private, and the Himalayan views are at their sharpest. July–August monsoon is lush and dramatic — many guests love the cozy indoor-outdoor balance — but some days are entirely overcast. We're open and worth visiting in every season.
Light snowfall at Kosi (1,100m) is possible in January–February but not guaranteed. The Almora ridge (1,600m), 15 minutes away, gets moderate snow some winters. The snow at higher altitudes like Binsar (2,400m) and Kasar Devi ridge is more reliable. We'll keep you informed of conditions if you're planning a winter visit — and the bonfire on a snowy evening is something special.
At 7,200 feet, Soul Kumaon is roughly 8–12°C cooler than Delhi at any given time. Summer (May–June): 18–28°C days, 12–16°C nights. Autumn (Oct–Nov): 10–22°C days, 5–10°C nights. Winter (Dec–Feb): 2–12°C days, -2 to 4°C nights. Spring (March–April): 15–24°C days, 8–14°C nights.
The easiest way is WhatsApp us at +91 92175 59305 with your preferred dates. We respond within 2 hours typically. You can also email soulkumaon@gmail.com. We'll confirm availability, share pricing, and guide you through the booking process. A deposit is required to secure your dates.
Cancellations 7 or more days before check-in: full refund. Cancellations within 7 days of check-in: non-refundable, but we'll work with you to find alternate dates at no extra charge. If we have to cancel on our end due to unforeseen circumstances, you receive a full refund. WhatsApp us early if your plans change — we'd rather reschedule than lose you a visit.
Yes — ATMs in Kosi market (5 minutes from us) and in Almora town (15 minutes). We recommend withdrawing cash in Haldwani before starting the hill climb, as Almora ATMs occasionally run short during peak weekends. UPI payments are accepted at most local establishments.
An enormous amount, within easy reach: Kasar Devi ridge (8km — ancient temple, NASA cosmic ray zone, Himalayan views), Jageshwar Dham (34km — 124 ancient stone temples in deodar forest), Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary (34km — 200+ bird species, Zero Point 300km panorama), Kausani (56km — Gandhi's Switzerland, Nanda Devi view), Almora old bazaar and Bal Mithai (5km). We provide trail maps and day-trip guides for all of these. See the full list →
Yes — on clear nights away from the full moon, the Milky Way is clearly visible from our rooftop deck. Almora rates Bortle 3–4 on the dark sky scale (Delhi rates 8–9). The best season is October–November and April–June when the galactic core is well-positioned. We have a 70mm telescope set up on the deck on request. Full stargazing guide →
Absolutely — some of our most memorable guests have been solo travellers: writers, remote workers, people taking a deliberate break. The space is private and completely yours. Our caretaker is there for meals and any help you need, but gives you complete space otherwise. The forest trails are safe to walk alone in daylight. We do recommend letting someone know your plans for evening walks beyond the property.
We typically respond within 2 hours. No question is too small.
